In my last post, I looked at a Historical World War One Diorama. Today, I look at a 1/9th Historical Bust by MJ Miniatures. I took this picture at Sword and Brush 2019’s miniature painting competition. For those wondering, this figure is a Polish Winged Hussar.
It was painted by a Sebastian, but unfortunately, I did not catch his last name. If you know the name, please let me know and I will make the correction.
The model comes as 17 resin parts and a small wire of aluminum.
Now, let’s take a look at this figure.
The Model at Sword and Brush 2019
Absolutely stunning. The paint job on this model really impresses me. The furs look great and the metals are nicely done. The work is well out of my league and that is one of the neat things about going to conventions with painting competitions. Seeing the great work of others.
I said it once, and I say it again – the quality of work at Sword and Brush’s painting competition is absolutely amazing! If you can take this competition, you deserve some serious bragging rights.
The Polish Winged Hussars
As stated above, this is a historical figure. This bust represents a Polish Hussar and looks very life-like to me. They originated as exiled Serbian mercenaries. Eventually they became the elite cavalry of the Polish Army. They enjoyed that leading position from the 1570s to 1776. Their main tactic was to charge the enemy and they are known for the wings they wore into battle.
Why exactly they wore wings is not known. Some of the theories involve deafening their horses from the sounds their enemies might make on the battlefield to scare their horses and another involves the sound of the wings being used to scare their enemies. Whatever the reason, the wings give the warrior a very distinctive look.
